WORK in BERMUDA Our client has an opening for a VP of Casualty Claims to specialise in US / Canadian and international Healthcare Liabilities. An opportunity to join a leading global insurance & reinsurance company. This role will be based in Hamilton, Bermuda. A full relocation and immigration package and concierge support will be available to assist with all aspects of a relocation. The ideal candidate must be experienced and be confident enough to hit the ground running and be able to manage all claims aspects of the healthcare liability portfolio in addition to supporting wider casualty claims management. * Review and assess severity of claim notifications * Draft and issue claim correspondence. * Instruct and manage claim and coverage counsel. * Investigate and evaluate assigned claims as to coverage, liability and quantum. * Make appropriate reserve and settlement recommendations and establish case reserves within delegated authority levels. * Negotiate and resolve assigned claims, including by participating in mediations and settlement conferences. * Liaise with claims handling entities for captive healthcare reinsureds and underlying carriers and perform required audit and audit oversight functions. * Manage staff of assistants with respect to claim intake, file creation, and initial notice acknowledgement. * Comply with internal reporting, auditing, and reserving procedures. * Liaise with underwriting. * Perform other ad-hoc projects related to claims and claim handling. * Assist in other departmental projects and reports as required. What you need to show … * At least 10 year’s experience within casualty claims and specific understanding of North American & international healthcare liability cases. * Familiarity with US laws pertaining to the management of insurance claims. Knowledge of New York state insurance law would be an advantage. * Posses the technical knowledge and gravitas to lead the control and management of complex and high value claims. * Work in a collaborative manner with internal and external stakeholders. Medical Malpriactice Claims Adjuster

An opportunity to join a leading international insurer in the healthcare liability space. In this role as the Senior Claims Handler you will be responsible for the effective management of a caseload of international medical malpractice claims. This will consist of managing clinical negligence cases via instructing panel solicitors and liaising with the insured and panel for optimal claims outcome. In addition, the Senior Claims Handler will be expected to assist underwriting and risk with claims information, attending prospect and insured meetings and mentoring more junior members of staff within the claims team. The role will report directly to the VP Head of Claims to ensure that claims have appropriate oversight and are handled efficiently taking commercial, reputational, regulatory and other policy considerations into account. Key responsibilities * Manage a portfolio of medical malpractice claims, notifications, and regulatory healthcare matters. * Proactively investigate and handle claims from first notice through resolution, including determination of coverage and analysis of liability, quantum and strategy. * Ensure adequate reserving pursuant to company Reserving Philosophy. * Negotiate settlement of claims in conjunction with appointed experts. * Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including underwriters, brokers, solicitors, TPAs to improve organisational performance and provide optimal service to our insured clients. * Assist with panel and TPA management, including large loss claim review and audit. * Assist with the training and development of other team members. Knowledge, skills and experience * At least 5 years' experience with Casualty claims across various jurisdictions (US, UK and Ireland beneficial). * Qualified to handle Irish claims (via ACII / FCII designation or other qualification recognised by CBI) or willingness to sit qualifying exams. * Familiarity with London Market systems (eg ECF) and operating protocols. * In-depth knowledge of general insurance principles and practices. * Ability to interpret regulations and apply guidance when handling regulatory healthcare matters. * Ability to mentor and develop junior staff. * Sound judgement and ability to analyse complex matters and technical information.
